Paige Phillips - Bronze Arts Award Journey

Welcome to my Blog!

Hi my names Paige and this is my Arts Award blog!

VIDEO 1 - Arts Award Journey

I have recorded an interview to share what I want to focus on for my Arts Award Journey. I really enjoy writing my own songs and I want to get better at it, learning more about what goes into being singer songwriter. I want to record and release my own music and explore different styles.

Explore the Arts as a Participant

IMAGE 1 - Arts Award Plan

To start my Arts Award Journey, I have spent time exploring the space. I want to develop my musical ability, exploring the DJ decks, creating and producing songs for Soundcloud. I want to progress as an artist and create a platform. Along with experimenting with different styles and using different equipment I wouldn’t normally have access to.

EXPLORING THE STUDIO

My time in the studio I have been exploring recording with professional microphones and recording software. I recorded my first track Runaway. It took a few takes and we changed up some of the angels you hear things in. I hated recording for the first time in the studio because I was super nervous but as we went on I got really into it and started to enjoy the process more than I thought I would. My song was recorded in Cubas.

VIDEO 2 - Behind the Scenes

When I recorded the song I explained to the tutor I wanted a section that sounded almost dreamy. To do this I asked him to make each lyric sound like it came from a different ear and we layered them on top of each other.

I have uploaded two songs to my Soundcloud, Magnetic and Run Away. They are the first songs I have released under the stage name of RIOT. I have also created a logo for RIOT using Canva as well as an album cover for Runaway. I enjoyed making the album cover and learning more about how to use the software Canva.

Here I was editing and designing my website as well as recording Runaway. I have tried recording with different software. First I used Cubase and then tried Logic Pro. It has been good to get to try different recording software’s to see the differences. I have also used Bandlab but before I did the Arts Award. They have got slightly different layouts but they pretty music do the same things. I have been recording as much as I can when I come to the We Are Nosie Studios to get better at it and to get more confident behind the microphone.

REFLECTION

I have recorded another interview to reflect on exploring the Arts at We Are Nosie. I have experienced recording and designing, along with creating my own platform on Soundcloud. I think I have really grown as an Artist and come out of my comfort zone when it comes to music.

Part B:

Experiencing the Arts as an Audience Member

We had singer songwriter Michael Brindley come and perform at BYZ studios. He performed some original music and an Oasis cover.

I was an audience member at the We Are Nosie Studios watching Michael perform some of his original songs. The first song he performed was my favourite. We were able to review his performance with review cards while we watched and so we could ask him questions after the show. It was a good experience different than other days at the studios.

This is the review card I filled out while watching Michaels performance. I thought his stage presence was strong and he engaged me as an audience member, but I thought his stage set up could of been better.

VIDEO 8 - Q&A

After Michael performed he stayed and spoke to us about the performance. I was able to ask him questions with my class mates and We Are Nosie tutors. Top hear a bit more about his background and how he started as an artist and what advise he had for us as young artists.

Reflection on the Performance

VIDEO 9 - Reflection of Performance

I reviewed the performance with my class mates, we talked about what we liked and what we didn’t like about the performance and most of us agreed it wasn’t something we would normally listen to but we thought he was a good performer and cared about his work as an artist. He was defiantly passionate about his music which is inspiring to see.

With my We Are Noise tutor I spent time researching about Yungblud and learning somethings new about him. I created a magazine about him so the next time I go to a concert I can try and get him to sign it. I found out about his background, I knew some bits but now I know more. I learnt who inspired him as an Artist and added a section dedicated to his biggest inspiration Ozzy Osborn. YungBlub is my biggest inspiration.

This is my Artis inspiration. I have been inspired by the best artist in Doncaster, YungBlud. Hes genuinely honest with his music and talks about struggles and how people can get through them. I love his PunkRock style.

I have created a magazine all about his rise to fame, early life and friendships he made along the way. Ive also reflected on how he’s influenced me as an artist.

ARTIST INSPIRATION

Yungblud, Interview

My Artist behind the Artist interview about Yungblud. I recorded a podcast with my We Are Noise tutor recapping and reflecting what Yungblud means to me as an Artist. I enjoyed recording this as he is one of my favourite topics to talk about and I cant always put into words how much he inspires me.

Skill Share Plan

VIDEO 11 - Skill Share Plan

For the skill share part of the Arts Award I recorded a podcast with my We Are Nosie Tutor. We talked about what I should share I felt that lyric writing is the best option for me to teach. I think I will be good at showing my tutor how to lyric write because I do it a lot and I enjoy writing my own songs.

BLOG 15

Gallery 7 - Skill Share preperation

I spent time planning my skill share and created a six step lesson plan. This guide is similar to how I would go about writing my own songs. Hopefully my step by step plan is clear and explains well how to write your own song.

I’ve created worksheets on Canva to make the writing process easier for my lesson. One is to make the brain storming part easier, with a space to add your backing track name and the second one is to write down the name of the song created and the song. I will also practice delivering my skill share to make sure I have all the tools I need.

Skill Share Reflection

I think my skill share delivery went well and I was clear about the lesson. I recorded a final video with my We Are Noise tutor reviewing our lesson and seeing what she thinks I did well on during the lesson.
