Hi, my name is Jack, and this is my Arts Award Journey. Throughout my blog, I will be exploring the Arts more and learning how to create my own tracks, remixes, and raps. I am excited to develop my skills and learn more about music.

I started by making a mind map on Canva with my We Are Noise tutor to plan my goals. Now, I’m in the studio practicing my freestyle rapping to get a feel for the rhythm, while also learning how to use the decks to mix two songs together.

I’m spending my time learning two things: how to record music in the studio and how to mix tracks on the decks. I’m taking my favourite songs apart to see how they work so I can find my own style. In the pictures below I am recording my first video diary.

I’ve been learning more how to use the DJ decks and how to create my own playlists on the computer so they work with the decks. I’ve been learning about BPM and how to match two songs by altering it. I like DJing because you can make songs you know a bit different and mix them with others.

I’ve been in the studio with my tutor lately getting the hang of how to set up mics properly. It’s been cool learning how to handle the gear safely, like plugging in the XLR making the sound go through the interface straight into Cubase to get a good recording.

Explore

This is the part of my Arts Award that I have picked Clavish. I like Clavish because of what he raps about in his tracks. I thought he would be a good choice because he is different than the rest of the UK rappers.

When researching about Clavish I learnt about Daily Duppy thats a youtube channel that promotes GRM daily freestyle rap videos. I like a lot of the videos they post but Clavish always stood out to me.

I spent time in session researching about Clavish. I learnt more abut his background and where he’s from and grew up and about his career as a rapper.

Reflection of my Arts Award

I’ve spent time thinking about everything I’ve achieved on this Arts Award journey. I’ve learnt so many things about what goes into the music I like to listen to and it’s cool that I am able to create it myself. From exploring the DJ decks and recording my own freestyles and learning all about the studio and being able to use the equipment.
